During my research regarding the production and delivery of electricity, I learned that roughly 90% of fossil fuel energy is lost primarily through heat given off during the process of generation and distribution. Leaving us 10% for actual use in our houses and at work. Given the massive amount of inefficiency that exists, research is taking place to study the feasibility of utilizing supercooled powerlines. By cooling the wires the resistance an electric current faces -this is how the heat is generated- traveling within the wire becomes zero. So for example, if there is a supercooled electric wire loop with a current traveling through it, no heat will be given off from the wire and the current will keep traveling in this loop forever, that is, as long as the resistance remains zero. Certain infrastructure related businesses that support our electric grid may make for compelling value based long term investments given the existing state of our grid and possible technical upgrades that may occur.
